Dental Check-ups & Cleans

Stay ahead of dental problems with a thorough examination and professional clean. Early detection saves you time, money, and discomfort.

Your Foundation for Lifelong Oral Health

A routine check-up and clean is the single most effective thing you can do to protect your smile. Most dental problems including cavities, gum disease, and early oral cancer are far easier and cheaper to treat when caught early. That is why our dentists at Serene Family Dental recommend visiting every six months.

Your appointment begins with a comprehensive examination: we check every tooth for decay, cracks, and wear, assess your gum health, examine your bite alignment, and screen for early signs of oral cancer. Digital X-rays, taken only when needed, let us see what is happening below the surface without unnecessary radiation.

After the examination, our hygienists perform a thorough scale and clean to remove hardened tartar (calculus) that brushing alone cannot shift, from above and below the gumline. We finish with a professional polish that leaves your teeth feeling smooth and fresh, and a fluoride treatment to strengthen enamel. You will also receive a personalised oral hygiene review so you can make the most of your routine at home.

We proudly serve patients from across Western Sydney, including Penrith, Blacktown, Mount Druitt, and St Marys. The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is accepted for eligible children, and we process all major health fund claims on the spot via HICAPS.

Check-up & Clean FAQs

Most people benefit from visiting every 6 months. If you have active gum disease, a history of cavities, or are a smoker, your dentist may recommend a 3 to 4 month recall. We will advise the right frequency for your individual situation at your first appointment.
Yes. Check-ups and scale and cleans are standard preventive items covered by most Extras health insurance policies. We accept all major funds via HICAPS so you can claim the benefit on the spot. Any gap payment will be explained before treatment starts.
The CDBS is a Medicare program that provides up to $1,095 in dental benefits over 2 consecutive calendar years for eligible children aged 2 to 17. It covers check-ups, cleans, X-rays, fissure sealants, fillings, and extractions at no out-of-pocket cost. We can check your child's eligibility on the day. Just bring their Medicare card.
A routine scale and clean is generally comfortable. You may feel pressure or vibration from the ultrasonic scaler, and teeth can be temporarily sensitive if you have early gum disease or exposed roots. Our hygienists work gently and can apply topical numbing gel if needed.
No. X-rays are only taken when clinically necessary, such as to check for decay between teeth, monitor bone levels, or investigate a specific concern. Low-dose digital X-rays produce far less radiation than older film-based systems. For most adult patients, bitewing X-rays are taken every 12 to 24 months, not at every visit.
