At Serene Family Dental, our team has a passion for making dental visits enjoyable for kids, from toddlers visiting for the first time to teenagers getting ready for adult care.
We recommend bringing your child in by their first birthday or within 6 months of their first tooth erupting. These early visits are brief and low-key. We spend most of the time with parents, discussing nutrition, teething, fluoride, and what to expect as teeth develop. For older children, we provide thorough check-ups, professional cleans, and preventive treatments like fissure sealants that dramatically reduce the risk of decay in the back teeth.
For eligible children aged 2 to 17, we accept the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which provides up to $1,095 in Medicare-funded dental care over two years. This covers check-ups, cleans, X-rays, fillings, fissure sealants, and extractions. We will check your child's eligibility on the day and handle all the paperwork.
We welcome families from across Western Sydney, including Penrith, Blacktown, Mount Druitt, St Marys, and Jordan Springs. Extended hours on evenings and Saturdays mean you do not have to take time off work for kids' appointments.

Children's Dentistry FAQs
We recommend a first visit by your child's first birthday or within 6 months of their first tooth appearing. Early visits are short and relaxed, no treatment, just a gentle look, a chat with parents, and a chance for your child to become comfortable with the dental environment.
Your child may qualify if they are aged 2 to 17 and received a Commonwealth Government payment (such as Family Tax Benefit Part A) during the calendar year. The CDBS provides up to $1,095 over 2 consecutive calendar years for check-ups, cleans, X-rays, fissure sealants, fillings, and extractions. Just bring your child's Medicare card and we will check on the day.
Fissure sealants are a thin plastic coating painted onto the deep grooves of back molars to prevent food and bacteria from getting trapped. The treatment is completely painless, no injections, no drilling. We typically recommend sealants when the first permanent molars come through around age 6 to 7, and again at age 11 to 12 for the second molars. They are one of the most cost-effective preventive treatments available.
Dental anxiety is very common in children and we take it seriously. Our team uses a tell-show-do approach: we explain every step in child-friendly language, demonstrate instruments before using them, and only proceed when your child feels comfortable. Parents are always welcome in the treatment room. We never force treatment on an anxious child. Building trust takes time and we are happy to invest it.
X-rays are only taken when clinically necessary, for example to check for decay between teeth that cannot be seen visually, or to monitor developing teeth and jaw growth. Our low-dose digital X-rays use minimal radiation. For most children, bitewing X-rays may be taken every 12 to 24 months depending on cavity risk. We always explain the reason before taking any X-ray and will seek your consent.
