Where removal is needed, we'll explain your options clearly: simple extraction for erupted teeth, or a minor surgical procedure for impacted ones.
All procedures are performed under local anaesthetic. For patients who are nervous or want a more relaxed experience, sedation options are available. Recovery is generally 3–5 days for simple extractions and up to a week for surgical cases. We provide detailed aftercare instructions and a follow-up call to check on your progress.

Wisdom Teeth — Your Questions Answered
No — only wisdom teeth causing problems or at risk of causing problems need removing. If your wisdom teeth are fully erupted, well-aligned, and easy to clean, they can stay. Removal is recommended for impacted teeth (stuck under the gum), those causing pain or crowding, or those developing decay or gum disease around them.
Most people recover from simple extractions within 3–5 days. Surgically removed impacted wisdom teeth may take 5–7 days. Swelling and soreness typically peak around day 2–3 then steadily improve. We'll give you detailed post-operative instructions including what to eat, how to care for the socket, and when to call us if something doesn't seem right.
The procedure itself is performed under local anaesthetic — you'll feel pressure and movement but not pain. For anxious patients, we offer sedation so you're relaxed and comfortable throughout. Post-operatively, some soreness is normal and well managed with over-the-counter pain relief. Most patients find the experience far less painful than they expected.
Cost depends on how many teeth are being removed, whether they are impacted, and the type of anaesthesia used. We provide a full cost estimate at your consultation so there are no surprises. Dry socket occurs when the blood clot in the extraction socket is lost before healing is complete, exposing the underlying bone. It causes sharp pain around day 3–4. You can reduce your risk by avoiding smoking, drinking through straws, and vigorous rinsing in the first 48 hours. If you develop dry socket, call us immediately — we can pack the socket with a soothing dressing to relieve discomfort quickly.
